Grammar rule

The order of adjectives

a / an / the / my / two…opinionsizeagecolorwhere frommaterialnoun
aniceoldstonehouse
atinynewpinkphone
twowhiteJapanesepaperlamps
myfunnylittlebrother
  • Opinion first (what you think: nice, lovely, ugly, cute, comfortable), then the facts: size, age, color, where from, material.
  • Two or three adjectives are usual. More sounds strange.
  • No and between adjectives of different kinds before the noun: a big old bag (not a big and old bag). But two colors take and: a black and white cat. After be, use and: The bag is big and old.
  • Adjectives have no -s: three small boxes (not smalls).
A way to remember it: "What do I think? How big? How old? What color? From where? Made of what?"

Teach it live with video and a whiteboard, or print it: the PDF has every slide, the homework and the answers.
