A review of lessons 1–5: am, is and are, questions with be, my / his / her, a and an, and plurals, all together in a voice message between two language partners. The student chooses the right form, completes a reply, fixes one mistake from each lesson, and has a first video call with a new partner.

Free, no card needed. The PDF has every slide, the homework and an answer key.

Warm-up

Before we look back at the last five lessons:

  1. Are voice messages fun for you, or are they a problem?
  2. Who is a good English partner for you: a friend, a teacher or an app?
  3. Are your English classes online or in a classroom?

Grammar rule

Grammar from lessons 1–5

LessonGrammarExample
1am, is, are, and notMy uncle is a chef. We aren't busy today.
2questions with be, short answersAre they in class? — No, they aren't. Where is the bank?
3my, your, his, her, its, our, theirYuri and his sister · the bird and its cage
4a and an: the first sounda sofa, an onion, a one-hour class
5pluralstwo benches, three puppies, six people
Five things to watch: a sentence needs be (not She a chef); be comes before the person in a question, and yes takes the long form (Yes, I am); his or her goes with the owner, not the thing; a or an goes with the sound, not the letter; and the new-word plurals take no -s (people, men, feet).

Teach it live with video and a whiteboard, or print it: the PDF has every slide, the homework and the answers.
