Questions with a question word

what, where, what time, how… + do / does + I, you, she, your cousin… + the verb:

  • Where do they swim?
  • What does your cousin study?
  • How does this machine work?

Watch out

  • After does and doesn't, the verb has no -s: She doesn't play golf. Does she play? (not doesn't plays, Does she plays?)
  • In a short answer, do or does stands for the verb: Yes, I do. No, she doesn't. (not Yes, I play.)
  • be has no do: Are you hungry? She isn't here. (not Do you are hungry?)
