Warm-up

Before we look back at this unit:

  1. When you were a child, what did your teachers say about you to your parents?
  2. Who do you talk to about your day when you get home?
  3. Do you listen to voice messages right away, or do you wait?

LessonGrammarExample
16I wish + a past form: wishes about nowI wish I knew more people here. I wish I could come with you.
17reported statements: said / told + person, the tense moves back"I'm cold." → He said he was cold. / He told me he was cold.
18reported questions: if / whether, or the question word + statement order"Where is it?" → She asked where it was.
19reported instructions and requests: tell / ask + person + (not) to"Please don't wait." → He asked us not to wait.
20relative clauses: commas for extra information; whose, where, when; leaving out who / thatOur cat, which is fifteen, sleeps all day. · the book (that) you lent me
Five things to watch: a past form after wish, and could, not would, about yourself; said + no person, told + a person; statement order after asked (where it was, not where was it); not to + the base verb (told me not to go); never that after a comma, and whose is not who's.

Teach it live with video and a whiteboard, or print it: the PDF has every slide, the homework and the answers.
