Warm-up

Before we look back at the last three units:

  1. What have you been doing more of since our last review: working, studying, cooking or relaxing?
  2. Which job have you been putting off this month?
  3. What did you buy last week that you didn't really need?

Grammar rule

Grammar from units 1–3

UnitGrammarExample
1present perfect simple (results, how many) and continuous (activities, how long)I've sold my car. I've been packing all week.
2future perfect simple and continuous: before or up to a future timeBy then, I'll have learned some Spanish. By June, I'll have been living there for three months.
3should have / could have + past participle, didn't need to + verbI should have started earlier. I could have borrowed hers. I didn't need to buy them.
Three things to watch: state verbs (know, own, be) are not usually continuous; after by the time, use the present simple (by the time you listen, not will listen); after should, could and would, use have + past participle (should have gone, not should have went).

Teach it live with video and a whiteboard, or print it: the PDF has every slide, the homework and the answers.
