Warm-up

Let's talk about work.

  1. What is your job? Or are you a student?
  2. What jobs are in your family?
  3. What is your favorite job on TV or in the movies?

Grammar rule

a or an?

a and an mean one

a + a consonant sound (b, c, d, f…)an + a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u)
a nursean engineer
a teacheran artist
a firefighteran office worker
a difficult joban interesting job
a great joban easy job

It is the sound, not the letter: a uniform (u sounds like you), an hour (the h is silent).

Look at the next word: an engineer, but a good engineer.

With a job, use a or an: I'm a nurse. She's an artist. (not I'm nurse)

What do you do? = What is your job? — I'm a cook. / I'm an engineer. / I'm a student.

Teach it live with video and a whiteboard, or print it: the PDF has every slide, the homework and the answers.
